So you want to watch Fives' canon? (Of course you do) He appears only in The Clone Wars cartoon, which of the time of writing this, is available on Disney+ in the US and the UK.

You can choose to watch the whole show in broadcast order, from the movie through the 7 seasons, or you can watch the episodes in sequential order, that is the order they were meant to be broadcast and what amounts to chronological order from the canon. This list is available here.

The show is long and complex and follows many different and varied characters through a number of plot threads. If you are only interested in Fives, you can focus on just a few episodes:

Prologue: Hidden Enemy

Fives does not feature in this, but it provides an introduction to his brothers Rex and Cody and gives some insight into the lives of Clones.

I like to think that had the series not been cancelled when it was, this arc would have taken place before the Conspiracy arc and feature Fives in the role that Rex plays.

The Battle of Ryloth

The role of the 501st in the liberation of Ryloth has been mostly one of orbital support, but Captain Rex has his eye on the boys from Domino Squad. He's assigned Echo and Fives to the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps for the operation.

According to Rex, his reasoning is that as neither Fives or Echo can pilot worth a damn, they'd better make themselves useful in the ground assault. Echo is optimistically convinced this attachment to an elite Recon Unit is serving as field training for eventual promotion to ARC-Troopers. As Rex has been friendly with them since Rishi and has continually expressed his respect for them as soldiers, Fives doesn't have a reason to disagree.

A major difference between the 91st and the 501st is that the men of the 91st like and respect their Jedi General with the sort of fondness and respect that comes with reliable, understandable and well thought out plans - General Windu seems to like and respect them back, to the extent of their lives as equal to his own, and as highly as they value each other. Skywalker is the same, of course, but the 501st are generally of the opinion that a healthy culture of talking back is a key part of letting your General exactly what you think of showy recklessness.

But one way they match, of course, is that all plans are lucky if they last five minutes' contact with the enemy.

The 91st are engaged with the droid army in the approach to the capital city of Lessu. Ryloth is all mesas and gorges around here; it's hot, much drier than the jungles where they staged earlier engagements, and the ground has a bad habit of crumbling under one's feet - especially when hit by stray blaster bolts.

Fives is right by Echo's side one second, and the next he finds himself slipping perilously down a near vertical face into a gorge, sandy rocks racing past him to the sound of his name being yelled by his brother above. He shouts in annoyance and in shock, and then when his foot makes contact with a rock a few feet down, with pain.

The rocky nature of this planet acts to his advantage, Fives realises. He's sliding rather than falling, and is able to holster his blaster in time to grab another rock, which jerks his shoulder violently but stops his descent before his fingers slip and he falls again. The Force obviously has plans for him because he's able to combine what purchase he can get with what obstructions there are to turn a death fall into a painful tumble into shadow.

Eventually Fives lands hard on his feet at the bottom of a crevasse deep enough that the fighting above is only distant flashes of light, and next to the less fortunate body of a trooper who turns out to be CT-89-2874 - Fives doesn't know him and so doesn't know what his name was.

He stands up slowly, his legs screaming from the landing, his headache informing him that he may have hit that part of him on the way down. His armor is more than scratched - some of his plates have broken in clear shards, and he's entirely lost one of his He keys his wrist comm.

"Echo? Sarge? Anyone?"

But there's no signal. And there's no reason to come look for him either, so as far as Echo and the others is concerned, CT-27-5555 is one more casualty of the Battle for Ryloth.

He leans against the rocky wall, and considers his options.

And that's when he hears something.

AU Week: Jedi Temple is a magical school!

When the Jedi found the cloning facility on Kamino, they were astonished to find that among the young cadets was a fairly strong force-sensitive kid.

This provoked a lot of discussion within the Council about the implications of a single Force wielding clone, whether he was already too old to learn, what would happen if they let him go untrained, whether this was an opportunity of a problem to be solved.

They settled finally on this: Cadet 27-5555 was sent into the facility's labs and given what they had already started calling the "Boba Treatment" - some of his genetic alterations like the rapid aging was remarkably easy to turn off, if not reverse.

He was then taken away from his brothers and transported to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where the Council assigned him to Jedi General Agen Kolar, who at the time was still mourning the death of his former Padawan

It sure is weird being a clone in the Order -considered slightly 'less than' even by his peers, appearing considerably older than his years, a Padawan who was never a Youngling. A Clone leading other, more experienced brothers.

On the other hand, he understands the fraternity of clones more than any of the Jedi, and they respect him that little bit more than Jedi who don't understand their own experience.

He's got the best of both worlds, right?

Everyone has great hopes for his future.

CT-45-5585 "Thrip"

He doesn't catch the names or numbers of the clones who were already on the ice world of Orto Plutonia. All Fives and Echo know is that they've been shifted to a group of cold assault troopers as part of their cycle through various troops in the 501st, and have been dispatched with Rex, and the Generals Kenobi and Skywalker to investigate the missing unit. Orto Plutonia is in the Pantora system, and so the Pantoran senator and the Chairman of their ruling committee are there as well.

CT-85-9449 "Patches"

They arrive at the outpost to find all the clones dead.
Someone makes a note of their numbers. Some of their brothers back on Coruscant will remember their names.

CT-15-4968 "Switch"

There is also an outpost that had been droids, also all deactivated by the same means.

CT-44-0473 "Rooster"

The Jedi track the deaths to people already living on the planet: the Talz. The Jedi manage to persuade the Talz to attend a parlay with the Pantorans.

CT-94-5580 "Gunner"

The Pantoran Chairman claims that the Talz don't "count" as sentient, that they don't have a right to this planet. That it remains Pantoran territory and the Talz should submit to Pantoran rule.

CT-26-3160 "Charlie"

It's a Pantoran soveriegnity issue, so the Jedi don't get involved. But Pantora is part of the Republic, so the clones fall under the Chairman's command. Fives and an escort under Captain Rex' command escort him out to the meeting, he demands the Talz surrender, the Talz refuse.

CT-48-2586 "Voodoo"

They are led into an ambush.

CT-92-4102 "Gallant"

Eleven of Fives' brothers are killed, and every single one of them wounded before they are able to manage a retreat, to re-connect with the Generals. Only on the Chairman's death is the Senator able to broker a peace.

CT-16-5077 "Iceman"

Eleven men die because of one man's arrogance.

CT-52-4797 "Kriffhead"

It wasn't even part of the war.

CT-82-2020 "Tuos"

Fives himself, injured in two places, figures that he'll do his medic a favour and get out of his hair. He knows where else he can go to get stiched up.

"Hey. HEY, Zeke!"

Fives calls the name of the first man he sees walking towards the sleeping quarters as he emerges from the Bar. Zeke, who was probably about to go for his sleep shift, stops with a skeptical look.

"What is it, Fives..." and then when he sees what Fives' carrying, he pauses and gets even more skeptical. "...where did you get that?"

Fives ignores the question. "Who's the Deck Officer right now?"

"Echo."

It's not the best answer. Echo would be Fives' first choice to share this with. But it can't be helped. "Right. Well, get the others on to the command deck, including the sergeant."

"What?"

"It's not anything serious, Zeke. I just don't want anyone to miss out on this."

Zeke looks at Fives like he's crazy - a familiar look on that familiar face these days - but it's hard to argue with the big crate he's lugging with him, so he gives a gesture that's more wave than mocking salute, and heads off to O'Niner's quarters.

Fives just waves after him, and proceeds to the deck, where Hevy, Thinker and Droidbait are manning the scanners, looking, as they always do, bored.

"Hey, brothers," he says, "who wants a snack while on duty?"

"Is that from where I think it is?" Hevy, always the most bored, is already up from his station, jogging towards Fives and his crate.

Fives lets Hevy help him carry the crate to the central command dias, where they set it down on the floor, and Fives spreads his arms in a gesture of magnanimous generosity. "Dig in, boys."

This is when Zeke arrives with Cutup and Sergeant O'Niner.

"Food on the command deck, Trooper?"

..."Sergeant on deck," Zeke just manages to get out.

Fives' widespread arms turn to a gesture of pleading. "Sarge. I know it's against regulations, but I don't think this could wait." And indeed, Droidbait already has a mouthful of some sort of pastry covered in eggs, mushrooms and cheese, and his eyes are beginning to look like someone's injected him with a pleasure stimulant.

Thinker - still at his station, because their discipline is too good to break even for this - is alternating his stare between Droidbait and the crate. "But where did it come from?"

O'Niner considers Fives, and then the stuffed date that Hevy's now offering him. "CT-5555, have you been dealing in contraband?"

"...only technically?" Fives says, and he is about to explain before Cutup butts in:

"Fives is a fragging Jedi, is all."

Fives facepalms, because all three clones who aren't his batchers, and therefore don't know the story yet, are staring at him.

"I'm not a Jedi," he says. "It's magic." (Dammit, that doesn't sound better.) "It's not me doing it, I just keep getting captured by magic doors that lead me to this bar in a different Galaxy, but it's not me, I swear."

"It's true, Sarge," Hevy says loyally. "Fives wouldn't lie. He's tried to get us through the door but it only appears for him."

O'Niner sighs, as Fives reels off the best explanation he can, resigned to the knowledge that Fives, of all clones, wouldn't make up this stuff.

"So you brought food back from this magic bar for us?"

"Well, if I can't bring my brothers to the bar..."

But O'Niner is relaxing, and Droidbait has done a sabacc job of distributing the food to the others, including Thinker at his station, so they can eat and monitor the unremarkable screens at the same time. And even O'Niner, older and more experienced, with several off-duty periods on Coruscant under his belt, is astounded at the quality.

Hevy eventually heads off to replace Echo on Deck duty, and Echo comes down to the command deck with a skeptical expression, like he can't believe they'd need extra food.

"Regulation 52-97 says that all the prepared rations provided to clones provide the perfect nutritional balance for our bodies and..."

"Oh shut up, Echo." Cutup is already there, grabbing his brother's jaw to force his mouth open and shoving a piece of Rae's Bitter Chocolate Death onto his tongue.

He releases him, and Echo practically collapses against the wall.

"Fives."

Sergeant O'Niner corners Fives later, as he's clearing up after their illicit feast by pouring all crumbs directly into the incinerator. Fives stops what he's doing and salutes, aware that he did technically bring contraband and therefore committed a chargeable offence. Though that doesn't explain Thinker trailing behind the sergeant with a serious expression on his face that really belongs with Echo.

"Sarge," Fives says, prepared for the dressing down. But it doesn't come.

"I'm not going to put any of that into my report."

"Thank you, Sarge."

"But you shouldn't make a habit of it," O'Niner continues. "And Fives - I don't think you should tell anyone else."

"Sarge?"

O'Niner sighs, scrubs his forehead with the heel of his hand.

"Thinker came to talk to me, after what Cutup said about you being a Jedi."

"I'm not!" Fives says quickly, with a glare at Thinker. "That was a stupid joke. Cutup doesn't think..."

"I know," O'Niner cuts him off. "I get it, Fives. I do. But think. If the Republic found out one of us had access to somewhere like this. Magic? Intergalactic travel? Interdimensional, even?"

"Sarge, I don't think the Jedi would..."

"This isn't an order, Fives. It's advice; brother to brother. I know you're loyal to the Republic. We all are. But this..."

"...the universe has given you a gift, Fives," Thinker interrupts. "Just you. You get some downtime, maybe you need it." There's a touch of teasing sarcasm in his tone. For a clone to need something his brothers don't implies that clone is somehow defective. "But if the higher ups find out, they're going to want to use it. They're going to want to know why you?"

"You really think the Jedi..." Fives has no experience with Jedi, beyond General Shaak Ti, who never seemed the type. But he remembers the Bounty Hunters who trained them, and his tone takes a hesitant turn. "And even if they can use it, is that a bad thing...?"

"...there's more to the Grand Army than the Jedi, Fives."

Again - the Bounty Hunters. But Thinker's more experienced that Fives - is he referring to something else?

O'Niner puts a hand on Fives' shoulder. "This is a clone thing, brother. Let's keep it between clones."

After a tense moment, Fives quirks a grin at him. "As if I would share it with anyone else."

"Just don't," - O'Niner is firm - "don't let it get in the way of you doing your duty."

"Sir, no sir."

Later still, Fives is on duty as Deck Officer, and Echo comes to find him.

"Fives?"

"Echo?" The exterior of Rishi Moon is so dull and cold, there is really no sense in anyone voluntarily coming out here, so this means Echo wanted to talk to Fives uninterrupted. "Please tell me you're not going to cite contraband regs at me."

Echo actually smiles - from any of his other brothers it's mocking, from Fives it's just like poking him in the side.

"So that place is real, huh?"

"We're not designed to lie, Echo."

Echo's smile stays in place. "We're not designed to have things to ourselves, either."

Fives flinches. The last thing, the very last thing he would ever want would be to keep things from his brothers, from Echo. That's what this whole thing has been about.

"Echo, I..."

Echo holds up his hands quickly. "That's not what I'm saying. What I mean is - I know it's hard for you. I've been thinking."

He has to: "thinking for yourself?"

Without missing a beat, "shut up - I know that if it was me I'd be driving myself crazy trying to share it with the rest of you, too. The thing is - Thinker..."

Fondly: "screw that guy."

"...Thinker figures it's something the universe has chosen just for you."

"Did we know Thinker was a religious nut?"

Echo grins and throws an arm around Fives' shoulders, joining him on looking out at the desolate moon. "I think he's mad he's not the one with Jedi powers. But he's got a point, Fives. If it was meant for the rest of us, we'd find it. I just want you to know you don't have tear yourself up trying to share it with all of us all the time."

Five's tense smile relaxes slightly. "But if I can bring you back more of that chocolate?"

"If you don't, I'm throwing you to the clankers."

OOM: Season 1 ep5 "Rookies"

There are 8 Clone Troopers stationed on Rishi Outpost.

1. CT-57-327 - Zeke, stationed as the deck officer, keeping an eye out for ground invaders, sends regular updates on the lack of danger. Until, after a meteor shower falls on the station's shields, he fails to report in.

2. CT-62-42 - Thinker and

3. CT-00-2010 - Droidbait go looking him, only to run into a battalion of battle droids invading the station. Unarmed, they are only able to verbally alert their brothers within to sound the alarm.

4. Sergeant CT-09-909 O'Niner runs blasting into the invading droids, buying time for the remaining four to escape, as the droids converge on him to take him down. The droids have already disabled the beacon, however, and there is no way to alert the fleet, only to escape as Cutup destroys the door lock and Fives finds a ventilation passage down out of the station.

5. CT-56-4040 - Cutup discovers why orders were to never leave the safety of the shielded station when a giant cave eel - one of Rishi's dangerous native macrofauna, attacks him from behind and drags him screaming back into its burrow.

Fortunately, perhaps, the station was due for an inspection, and the arrival of Commander Cody and a Captain who introduces himself as Rex give the remaining troopers hope, especially with Rex's ingenious way of gaining entry, and both the experienced officers' prowess in combat, to give them control back of the base, only to see the Separatist fleet arriving.

Rishi Outpost's purpose is to alert the Republic of any incoming fleet that might attack the clones' homeworld of Kamino, but when the droids attacked, they hardwired the signal, making it impossible for Echo to just turn it off. Rex realises the only way to protect their home is to destroy the base sending the All-Clear and Echo realises that they can use the liquid tibanna heating fuel in order to blow the entire station, alerting the Republic to the danger.

Fives, Echo and Cody defend the base from another wave of droids as Rex and Hevy set up the explosives and the detonator. Fives leads them out through the same vent shaft, only to discover that the remote detonator had malfunctioned and...

6. CT-32-782 - Hevy stays behind, detonating the LT, destroying the base, and giving his life in order to alert the Republic Fleet that the sector is under attack.

Of the eight men manning Rishi Station, of the five cadets in Domino Squad, only Fives and Echo remain.

The door did reappear for Fives not long after he first arrived in Bar, and he was relieved to find out that it did take him back to the same time, and no one had noticed him missing at all.

Of course, what they've noticed now is his weird habits in the following days of trying to get the door to open when he's with one of his comrades.

"Cutup, wait!" he says, pushing forward and opening the door to the sleeping quarters with his hand on his brother's arm.

Cutup waits, but when the door opens to the sleeping quarters he gives Fives a very firm side-eye.

"Fives," this is Echo, coming up behind both of them and slipping an arm around Fives' shoulders. "Brother, are you okay?"

Fives shakes his head, realises that he's been acting like a complete idiot, and grins.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine."

He's aware of both Echo and Cutup looking at him.

"What's going on?"

And now Hevy comes strolling up, taking in the scene.

"Are we asking Fives if he's crazy?"

Cutup nods, seriously. "You ever heard of a clone to crack from boredom?"

"No," Fives says hurriedly, raising his hands. "It's nothing like that, I swear."

Droidbait clears his throat from where he's sitting on his bunk, watching this play out. "You have been acting odd, Fives. You keep - trying to open doors."

Fives rolls his eyes so hard he ends up looking at Droidbait, who shrugs helplessly, and gestures to their fellow batchers. They all know something's going on.

"Do we need to talk to Sergeant O'Niner?" Cutup says, and thank the Galaxy that Fives knows him better than to be fooled by his ridiculously good straight face, because his brother has talent

"Alright," Fives says eventually, putting his hands up. "I'm not cracking, brothers." He turns into the quarters, Echo's arm still around him, Cutup and Hevy following, and the door shutting behind them.

Except - how do you explain this?

"We don't think you're cracking," Echo says, with a glance at Cutup. "We're designed not to, we know that. So what is it?"

Fives looks around himself - Echo, Cutup, Droidbait, Hevy: Domino Squad. Not just his brothers but his batchers, they've been through everything together.

And it kills him he can't bring them to this.

"Alright," he relents slowly. "But Cutup, if you make one joke about me losing it I'm throwing you to the Clankers."
